Watchdog Group Releases Scary Findings
(UnitedVoice.com) – A report released earlier this week by the Environmental Working Group found that major cities all over the US have contaminated tap water.
The chemicals found in the water are per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). These chemicals can be found in a wide variety of products, from plastic containers to carpeting. The main way they’ve gotten into the country’s drinking water is their use in firefighting foam.
The results confirm that the number of Americans exposed to PFAS from contaminated tap water has been dramatically underestimated by previous studies, both from the @EPA and @EWG’s own research. https://t.co/tO0jbaHQJo pic.twitter.com/X8EU8fPpOH

Fire departments in New York, Colorado, Wisconsin and Washington have started using a non-PFAS foam, but it could be more than a decade before the groundwater in those areas improves.
PFASs, also known as “forever chemicals” have been found in groundwater up to 15 years after they were no longer used. These chemicals can cause developmental problems in infants, fertility issues, an increased chance of high cholesterol levels and even cancer.
According to NSF International, an organization that tests the effectiveness of water filtration systems, common household items like Brita filters won’t protect your family from the dangers of PFAS. They recommend a reverse osmosis system or an activated carbon filter that’s installed under the sink.
Minnesota, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Michigan and Vermont have all established maximum PFAS levels in an attempt to have safer water, other states, like New York, are also in the process of proposing new regulations.
We’ll continue to keep you updated on this topic, and others, that can cause a threat to the health of yourself and loved ones.
